The Operations branch is a key component of the Division’s efforts to enhance coordination and streamline emergency response across Alaska. This structure aligns with the Division's mission to protect life, property, and the environment through effective disaster response and recovery. It supports Alaska’s communities in addressing the unique challenges faced by urban centers, rural villages, and remote areas.
The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) gathers, processes, and reports emergency situational intelligence to inform State policy and decision-making. It supports Alaska’s communities, including boroughs, tribes, and remote villages, as they manage disaster response operations. The SEOC also ensures accurate accounting of the state’s response support costs, providing the strategic oversight needed to address the complex and diverse needs of Alaskan communities. An essential component of the SEOC’s efforts is the daily release of a situation report. This report enhances community awareness by identifying regional areas of concern and provide information that helps Alaskans prepare for and mitigate potential impacts.
The Community Response Unit supports local incident management efforts throughout Alaska through both remote and on-scene technical assistance. Its mission is to protect life, stabilize incidents, and safeguard property and the environment. This unified, mission-driven approach strengthens the Division’s ability to enhance resource allocation, improve communication, and ensure effective disaster response and recovery. It also helps Alaska’s communities address emerging threats such as climate-related disasters, public health emergencies, wildland fires, flooding, and severe weather.
